Biography – I’m a photographer specializing in dynamic landscapes. I’m consistantly drawn to interfaces in the natural world – whether that be where dynamic meets stationary or where biotic meets abiotic – these areas of interface make for the best photographs. I hope you enjoy checking out my images as much as I’ve enjoyed making them. I’ve just relocated to Northern California after finishing graduate school in Rhode Island and I’m constantly amazed by the variety of the landscape on this new and exciting coast.

Image Description – I had the opportunity to spend the afternoon at Garrapata State Park at the very northern end of the famous Big Sur section of the California Coast. I will take any opportunity I can to get down there, it’s just a different world compared to the Bay Area.
I spent most of the day just hiking around looking for probably compositions and settled on this one for sunset. It was sheltered from the biting wind and there was great access to the surf zone without being too exposed to rogue waves.

Location - Garrapata State Park, Big Sur, CA

Photographic Gear – Nikon D7000, Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM, 3-stop hard line graduated neutral density filter

Image Editing Software Used – Photoshop CS5

Biography: David Richter is a self-taught landscape photographer based in Dresden, Germany. Growing up in a remote area in Germany’s Ore Mountains and in proximity to endless forests and wide mountain ranges David’s focus has always been nature, whether it’s snowy mountains or deep forests with small creeks flowing over moss-covered rocks.

Image Description – California’s coast is usually covered in a thick marine layer during the summer which makes colorful sunsets a very rare event. After three
months of continuously checking weather reports and tide schedules, the fog lifted and the sky exploded in the most amazing colors, while rain showers pounded on the naturally formed rock bridge at Natural Bridges SP in Santa Cruz, California.

Image Description – After spending the night in my Honda Civic parked on the side of the road I hiked up this creek amidst the redwoods. It had rained the night before so everything was damp and steamy, making for some great redwood ambiance. I didn’t see another soul the entire hike and it amazes me that in a state of 36 million people there are still many places in California that allow you to escape that bustle.

Image Description – I don’t usually find myself close enough to the coast to justify waking up for sunrise. But I had spent the previous night with a friend in Santa Cruz and we were heading down to Big Sur for a short photo expedition, so getting up seemed like the right thing to do. The sun never actually made an appearance that morning but we both enjoyed the subdued blue light and the beautiful cliffs.
